Beat those winter blues
Ahhh February....when hibernation really settles in.
How are you doing?
This is a common time of the year for those who don't enjoy the cold to hibernate. Really dig down into the couch and read, watch all the Netflix, or kick into home projects.
If you feel as though the winter blues are affecting you, read on for some holistic methods to combat that feeling of ...well....bleh.
#1. Get outside.
Either splurge on a high quality coat that will last you many years, or find one at a local thrift store. Bundle up and breathe that crisp, fresh air. Now is the time to enjoy Rhode Island without tourists! And getting outside as early as you can will assist your circadian rhythm, helping you get enough sleep. Here are some lovely winter walks in the area.
#2. Spark Some Joy
This may sound silly, but do you remember the last time you experienced full-bodied joy? Maybe you were visiting with friends and had a long lasting belly laugh over a joke or a story. Maybe it was watching your grandchild take steps toward you with a big smile, or the pleasure of buying yourself a new house plant that would fit in the perfect window at home. Find a way you can create that joyful feeling for yourself, and schedule it in if you have to.
#3. Eat Them Greens....or Fruits
Eating seasonally is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the taste of winter. If you've come into the office lately you may have walked away with a mandarin or some cranberry granola, for example. According to the seasonal food guide, "Seasonal food is fresher, tastier and more nutritious than food consumed out of season." Here is what's fresh in RI right now.
